Americolor Opera presents LaRoche
Did you know that there was a black passenger on the ill-fated Titanic?
LaRoche, the opera by Sharon J. Willis, is based on the life of the only black passenger on the ill-fated Titanic. This operatic production is being presented in commemoration of the centennial year of the Titanic tragedy. LaRoche features Wendel Stephens as Joseph Philippe LeMercier LaRoche, Ward Gailey as Captain Edward John Smith, Marlysa Brooks and Kimberly Edwards-Hall as Juliette LaRoche. Show times and dates are Saturday, April 14th and Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 3pm and 7pm both days at Atlanta Metropolitan College, 1630 Metropolitan Parkway, 500 Academic Building, Atlanta, GA 30310. General Admission is $20.

Christmas at Park Street with the CAU Philharmonic Society
“Christmas at Park Street” is the annual Christmas concert featuring the Clark Atlanta University Philharmonic Society, now under the direction of Dr. Curtis Everett Powell. Presented by the CAU School of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Music, the concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 at 4:00 pm in the Park Street Music & Art Complex, 793 Park Street, Atlanta, GA 30310. The Clark Atlanta University Philharmonic Society has been a very fine choir when I’ve heard them previously. I am expecting another fine program this year. Admission is free.

Cascade UMC Chancel Choir In Concert
The Cascade United Methodist Church Chancel Choir will be in concert on Saturday, February 27 at 5:00 PM. The choir, under the direction of Roland Carter, will offer a program of sacred music by Duke Ellington and the cantata Changed My Name by Lynda Twine.
Devonne Gardner will be the guest soloist for the Ellington part of the program. Ms Gardner has performed this music often and serves as a consultant in its performance as well as a soloist.
Changed My Name will feature soloists from the choir. If you are familiar with Cascade UMC, then you know that it has some very good soloists in all of its choirs.
Roland Carter is widely known as an arranger, composer, conductor and clinician. In addition to directing the Chancel Choir, he also teaches at UT Chattanooga and is in wide demand as a guest conductor and clinician. Among his arrangements is the widely performed concert version of Lift Every Voice And Sing.
